Jennifer Davey Named New Head of School
at St. Paul’s Episcopal Montessori School
SAN ANTONIO, TX. JULY 21, 2013–Jennifer Davey has been named the new head of school, for St. Paul’s Episcopal Montessori School, located near downtown San Antonio in the historic Government Hill neighborhood. The announcement was made by the Rev. Raymond Cole, interim chair of the school’s board of trustees.

Davey, who begins her duties August 1, 2013, most recently served as school director for the Redeemer Montessori School in Irving, Texas.  Prior to that she was school director of Montessori New Beginnings Academy in Plano, Texas.  An American Montessori Society Accreditation Validator, Davey began teaching Montessori Method to children in 1992.

She graduated from the St. Nicholas Training Center for the Montessori Method in London and also graduated with honors from the University of Bradford (England), where she received a bachelor’s of science degree in politics and sociology.  She also is a certified instructor in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.

The mission of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Montessori is to provide an outstanding Montessori-based education, in the Episcopal tradition, to culturally and economically diverse groups of children, nurturing the child’s mind, body and spirit. Children ages 18 months through 12 years of age are welcome in the school’s Toddler, Primary, Lower and Upper Elementary classrooms.

Kay Mijangos, the school’s founding headmistress, began the school in 2005 with the goal to offer outstanding educational opportunities for underserved students in San Antonio’s inner-city.  Today almost 50 percent all students receive some form of financial assistance depending on their family income.  There are currently 98 students enrolled at the school.

St. Paul’s  offers a rich curriculum as well as the benefit of a language therapist, a music therapist, after school gardening specialists, violin, dance and movement, as well as a diverse summer school program and community trips to the symphony, museums and visits to the school by leaders in business, government and the arts. The school is a member of the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools.

Plans are underway to double the size of the campus. Donors and major grants will allow the school to continue its mission of providing scholarships to more than 50 % of its student population.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Montessori is located at 1018 East Grayson Street, San Antonio, Texas 78208.  For more information, call 210-271-2861 or visit the school’s website at

Maria Montessori and 10 famous graduates from her schools
Christian Science Monitor
Maria Montessori stands in many ways as the mother of alternative education. The Italian physician and teacher invented a new kind of school, one with self-directed learning, classrooms with mixed age groups, and no grades. Now, on what would have been her 142 birthday, thousands of schools bear her name. These Montessori schools have some very famous alumni, many of which credit the free-flowing classes with teaching them to think differently and allowing them to change the world. Here are 10 of the most prominent…
