Mary Ellen Maunz 314 South Harrison Street Algonquin, IL 60102 Voice; 847 458-4157 Email: firstname.lastname@example.org There is a new paradigm in beginning reading instruction based on 30 years of research. Montessori led the way. However, there are steps most Montessori schools are not yet utilizing to the maximum benefit of their children. We can help you add the important steps your current Montessori reading program may be lacking, such as hands-on phonemic awareness before the introduction of letters, reinforcement of letter recognition beyond the tried and true sandpaper letters and the direct application of the sub-skills of phonemic awareness to word building and word reading. We also examine the key elements of whole language that enrich the Montessori classroom. Mary Ellen Maunz has been a Montessorian since 1972, teacher trainer since 1980, national and international speaker, MACTE Commissioner and Board member for seven years. She now offers workshops and consults with schools who wish to stay current with the new understanding of how children learn to read and include Montessori materials especially designed and classroom tested for over 20 years to fill in these important areas in early reading.
Nancy McCoy Kids at Computers 168 Manley Lane Milton, Ontario L9T 5P1 Canada Voice: 905 693-8958 Fax: 905 878-6177 Email: email@example.com Website: http://home.cogeco.ca/~kidsatcomputers/index.htm For PRESCHOOLERS to enhance their LEARNING SKILLS through FUN computer SOFTWARE Are you interested in offering Montessori preschoolers an opportunity to develop their budding skills while using a computer? Let me introduce you to Kids at Computers. It is a great way to offer lessons on a computer without incurring equipment costs and being concerned about teacher resources, security, or updates to hardware and software. The Kids at Computer learning station travels with a teacher to your location. As a mother of two young Montessori children, I appreciate the curiosity of children. I like to capture this awe as children discover skills through computer use. The computer and software is brought directly to the Montessori preschool. Lesson plans have been prepared in advance, and the teacher leads small groups through the activity. Hands-on time follows. Each session is 40 minutes in length, with a standard frequency of twice a month. There are minimal requirements to set up the computer learning station, and low administration effort. The cost is borne by the parents and is paid directly to Kids at Computers.
